I've loaded magazines by hand (M-16 as well as .40 cal. Baby Eagle) before and I've never had this hard of a time. I can only put 3 rounds in each 9-round magazine. I've oiled the springs, worked them, checked for obstructions, but the spring tension is so high that I can't physically put more than 3 rounds in....

Magazines can be mass produced by forming metal tube or forming and welding sheet metal, then properly heat teating it to the proper level of hardness + springiness.
