Feb 08, 2015 The main function of a recoil spring is to chamber the next round and return the slide to battery -- not to manage recoil or protect the gun. A strong spring will do the job, if it is able to fully cycle; a weak spring will do the job, too -- until it becomes so weak that it doesn't store enough energy to chamber the next round. One reason that Kahr uses heavier recoil springs is to reduce muzzle flip and felt recoil. Not entirely true. There is a narrow range of spring tension that that will work. As parts get lighter as on Kahr pistols it becomes very narrow. On full size guns like a 1911 its lessFeb 12, 2017 What can you do to reduce the felt recoil on an AR9? Yesterday I was briefly able to shoot my MVB acr stock 9mm. The recoil from it can be felt more than what I think it should for a 9mm. The gun ejects at 1 o clock and has the MVB 5.3 oz 9mm buffer and has a cmmg 9mm bolt that weights about 15 oz. The ammo was white box 115 gr .Recoil Calibration Packs are offered to allow the shooter a choice of recoil springs to calibrate the recoil function when the correct spring rating is not known. The shooter starts with the strongest spring and works down until the desired recoil function is obtained. The moving and the motionless masses are coupled by a spring that absorbs the recoil energy as it is compressed by the movement and then expands providing energy for the rest of the operating cycle. Since there is a minimum momentum required to operate a recoil-operated firearm's action, the cartridge must generate sufficient recoil to provide that momentum....
Factory spring weights
Mar 24, 2010 Changing recoil spring weight and mainspring weight also affect the overall timing of the gun: the recoil spring primary function is to push the slide forward, it also absorbs energy as the slide goes back which affects the rearward velocity of the slide which affects how the spent cartridge is
Apr 17, 2012 The following tips are from the chapter on buffers and recoil springs: The AR-15/M-16 rifle, as do all self-loading rifles, needs a recoil spring to cycle the action. Due to the lightweight design of the AR, the spring also requires a buffer, or extra weight.
Flat wire recoil spring that is ideal for reduced power loads in the P-07. Our 97040 SS guide rod is the perfect mate for this spring. $ 6.00. Availability: In Stock. Select options. Dec 16, 2007 You have to reduce your recoil spring weight if you reduce your striker spring weight, or you can risk a possible out of battery detonation. I'll spare you the lengthy explination. Just make sure if you put a reduced striker spring in it, you reduce the recoil spring to at least a 15lb spring.
Mar 18, 2014 Their reduced power hammer springs are an integral part of any trigger job I do on my revolvers. The key is to not use the absolute lightest spring they have; one step down from the factory hammer spring weight has always been reliable for me. Also,
Apr 17, 2012 In Gunsmithing: The AR-15, Patrick Sweeney shares tricks and information gathered over 25 years of shooting and wrenching on the www.tvimpermeabilizzazioni.it following tips are from the chapter on buffers and recoil springs: The AR-15/M-16 rifle, as do all self-loading rifles, needs a recoil spring to cycle the action.
Too light of a recoil spring can cause excessive wear and tear and felt recoil as the spring doesn't absorb enough of the recoil. Lighter loads would be best in this case. Too heavy of a recoil spring can cause failure to extract or failure to feed because the slide doesn't run its full coarse if the spring is too strong. more powerful ammo would work better.
The forty-caliber Hi Power uses a 20-lb. recoil spring for the more powerful .40 round. While the forty Hi Power's slide is slightly heavier, this is twice the increase in recoil spring strength provided by the 18.5-lb spring I recommend with the Hi Power.
Jan 11, 2010 The mainspring weight, when reduced using a "D" spring, is less causing the hammer to be easier to cock when the slide reciprocates. In order to compensate for the faster rearward momentum of the slide, the recoil spring weight should be increased.
The recoil time for the reduced power load with the 12, 16 and 20 lb springs was 40%, 35% and 42% longer, respectively, than the full power load. The reduced power load produced 32% less recoil force than the full power load, so the springs are quite sensitive to differences in recoil.
Our pistol recoil springs are manufactured from Chrome Silicon wire.Chromium-silicon alloy is noted for its hardness and superior performance at extremely high stresses. Because of its heat resistance and hardness, the alloy can be used in valve springs and automatic transmissions at temperatures over 275 degrees Fahrenheit.
Jul 13, 2018 Next mod to try is the lower power recoil spring coming from Century, hopefully it'll also run the reload. I've got the Ghost striker spring, reduced power fp block spring, & a Freedomsmith trigger to go. I do one mod at a time, I'm not exactly "Mr. Gunsmith".
There is no hard and fast rule as to how much "spring" a handgun needs. Too light of a spring and the handgun opens and closes early and hard, increasing the felt recoil and battering the frame. Too heavy of a spring, the slide is hard to open and may not cycle completely, jamming the firearm. Includes an extra power firing pin spring.
How to Select the Proper Recoil Spring
Item #4: if your CZ has the correct recoil spring to match the pressure of your load, then mis-feeds, jams, and improper feeding are virtually eliminated. With the correct recoil spring installed, the main issue will be reduced to the magazines or the ammo. You DO NOT select the recoil spring based on bullet weight.

M&P Recoil Spring Weight
Jan 13, 2012 I'm going to start reloading again and I'm thinking about using different recoil springs to get the gun running smooth. What weight spring does the M&P come with from the factory? What spring weights are you guys using? What advantages and disadvatages are you guys having with shooting lower power factor ammo and using lighter springs? Thanks
Walther PPK Reduced Power Recoil Springs?
Nov 04, 2009 As above, reduced power or extra power springs are not good in the PP series Walther's. In a recoil spring, a lighter spring will cause probable problems as above, and failures to operate properly. You can expect failures to eject properly or to feed.
Do changing recoil springs reduce recoil?
Feb 04, 2005 The reason for this post is that I changed the factory recoil spring in my Glock G-23 from the 18# one to a heavier 22# one with a new guide rod in anticipation of reducing the amount of felt recoil which will vary with different factory loads.
LCP benefit from stainless guide rod/reduced recoil springs?
Oct 29, 2017 LCP benefit from stainless guide rod/reduced recoil springs? This is a discussion on LCP benefit from stainless guide rod/reduced recoil springs? within the Ruger Pistols forums, part of the Pistol & Revolver Forum category; I have heard replacing with a stainless guide rod and reduced recoil springs will benefit the LCP. The recoil is suppose to be less and
